About Me & My Counseling Practice
Kathryn J. Cann, MSW
As a licensed therapist since 1990, my experience includes work with adults, children, teens and couples. I’ve provided outpatient counseling since 1994, first with Minirth-Meier Clinics, and then as the director of a church-based Christian counseling center for many years before moving to private practice with Gold River Christian Counseling Associates. My husband and I have three grown children and one grandchild and have been married for over 30 years.
One of the things I’m most excited about in my practice has been the successful use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) since being trained several years ago. Although most of the research on EMDR has focused on its use in the treatment of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, clinicians are finding it useful in treating many other issues as well. I have been amazed to see concrete results and relief for many of my clients almost immediately. For more information, I encourage you to visit the EMDRIA website at www.emdria.org.
I work between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm most days and am not available for evening or weekend appointments.
Medical Insurance and Employee Assistance Programs
I am a MediCare provider and a preferred provider on most insurance and EAP networks and panels. I am happy to bill your medical insurance, EAP, or Victim Witness. Some of the networks I’m on include Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Magellan, Value Options, Western Health Advantage, PacifiCare, United Behavioral Health, United Health Care, TriCare, Concern EAP, HealthNet, and Managed Health Network (MHN). The best way to find out if I am a provider on your plan is to call your behavioral health carrier or go to their website to see if my name is listed. You will also need to determine whether you need to obtain an authorization number and the amount of your copayment and deductible if there is one.
If we decide to schedule an appointment, you may download these intake forms and complete them prior to your first appointment with me. The Notice of Privacy Practices is for your reference and does not need to be printed. You might rather choose to arrive fifteen minutes early for the paperwork which you’ll find on a clipboard along with my business card in our waiting room. Appointments are fifty minutes in duration unless otherwise scheduled.
