“Whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention. They are not only telling you something about the secret of who you are, but more often than not God is speaking to you through them of the mystery of where you have come from and is summoning you to where…you should go next.”

-Frederick Buechner

My Story

For many years I’ve been on a journey of emotional healing. Along the way, I’ve learned some things about the impact of trauma and how critical our early relationships are to our soul. I’ve learned the value of self-understanding, bonding, boundary-keeping, shame-resilience and self-care. I’ve learned about what it takes to develop thriving relationships. Others have come alongside me to listen,  to offer their empathy and their presence, to act as mentors on a journey into wholeness. It is my own experience of  healing with others’ help that has drawn me into this work as a therapist.

What I Offer

I have a passion for wholeness and feel honored to walk alongside those who have experienced trauma, those who want to grow and those who just feel stuck. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, coping with life transitions such as retirement, recovering from abuse or co-dependency, working through a troubled relationship or grieving a loss, we will work together.  I think of therapy as a collaborative effort — you know yourself, and I’ve studied how trauma, stress, early relationships and everyday problems affect us. Together, we can explore and seek to make sense of how life is impacting you internally and within your relationships.

I work with men and women, young adults through older adults, and couples. I lead groups and can facilitate EMDR. I’ve spoken at retreats and workshops on journaling, prayer and contemplative practices for emotional healing and am available to speak.

My Style of Therapy

I incline my therapy toward compassion, warmth, safety and a lot of listening. I use Attachment Theory in my practice, along with a variety of tools and techniques. I educate my clients on trauma, helping them understand how it works on the inside and how it affects their relationships. Listening carefully for symptoms, I collaborate with my clients to help us make sense of them. A perspective of human need and growth guides me as I listen for struggles in bonding and boundaries, challenges of adulthood and the reality of living in a broken world with broken others and a broken self.

My Book

“Crossings: Discipleship for the Brokenhearted,” describes my journey of healing. Its main thrust is to help us engage with God around our pain — when suffering and love, put together, just don’t make sense. In it you can read about how Jesus engaged with people in the middle of their guilt, shame, fear and loss. It provides space to process through journaling and can be used in groups or on an individual basis.
